Epiphone Prophecy SG Crimson Fog Satin — Modern Performance Reimagined

The Epiphone Prophecy SG Crimson Fog Satin is a full ground-up redesign of the classic SG silhouette, engineered for the demands of contemporary high-gain and drop-tuned playing. Where traditional SGs run a 24.75" scale, this model stretches the string length to 25.5" (647.7 mm), raising string tension so heavier gauges stay taut and articulate when tuned down. The satin-finished mahogany body is capped with a maple layer and a highly flamed maple veneer, blending the SG's familiar contours with a darker, more aggressive visual identity. Built for serious players who need speed, stability, and tonal flexibility in one instrument, this guitar delivers modern performance without abandoning the iconic SG outline.

Standout Engineering: DAPS Pickup System and Frequensator-Inspired Tailpiece

What separates this model from a standard SG is the Dual-Axis Pickup Stabilization (DAPS) mounting system, which anchors each Fishman Fluence pickup to the body in a precision-machined pocket with integrated stabilizing wings, eliminating the need for traditional pickup rings. The strings anchor through the body in a split layout adapted from Epiphone's 1930s Frequensator tailpiece, with anchor distances tuned to firm up the bass strings while giving the trebles a slinkier feel for expressive bending. Combined with the LockTone Modern Tune-O-Matic bridge and roller saddles, this system increases sustain and keeps the playing surface free of sharp edges that would catch the palm during muting.

Body Construction — Tonal Foundation and Visual Identity

The mahogany core provides the warmth and midrange bite that has defined the SG since its introduction, while the flame maple veneer top adds visual depth and a subtle tightening to the upper register. A satin finish across the body reduces glare under stage lighting and gives the surface a smooth, fast feel against the forearm during long sets. Black hardware, black mother-of-pearl block inlays, and a multi-ply bound headstock with a split diamond inlay complete the modern, dark aesthetic.

• Body Material: Mahogany — the tonal backbone, delivering warmth and midrange punch
• Top Material: Flame Maple Veneer over Maple cap — adds visual depth and a subtle tightening to the high end
• Body Finish: Satin — smooth, low-glare surface that feels fast against the forearm
• Body Shape: SG Doublecut — the iconic silhouette with full upper-bout access to all 24 frets

Neck and Fingerboard — Built for Speed and Stability

The thermally aged one-piece maple neck is reinforced with graphite rods for long-term stability under temperature and humidity changes, and carved to Epiphone's HyperGlide profile, a slim yet substantial D shape that supports fast lead playing without sacrificing chord comfort. The bound ebony fingerboard transitions from a 254 mm radius at the nut to a 355.6 mm radius near the body, providing a rounder surface for rhythm work and a flatter surface for bending and lead lines. Twenty-four stainless steel frets with hemispherical end dressing deliver a smooth, durable playing surface that holds up to aggressive attack.

• Neck Material: Thermally aged one-piece Maple — reinforced with graphite rods for enhanced stability
• Neck Profile: HyperGlide — slim D shape designed for fast, fluid movement across the fretboard
• Fingerboard Material: Ebony — dense, articulate, with a tight, focused attack
• Fingerboard Radius: 254-355.6 mm compound (10"-14") — rounder for chords, flatter for bends
• Scale Length: 647.7 mm (25.5") — extended scale for tighter string tension in drop tunings
• Nut Width: 43 mm (1.69") — comfortable spacing for both rhythm and lead playing styles
• Nut Material: GraphTech — self-lubricating for improved tuning stability during bends
• Frets: 24 Stainless Steel — durable, corrosion-resistant, with smooth hemispherical ends

Electronics and Hardware — Active Versatility with Pro-Grade Components

At the heart of the tonal system sit custom-voiced Fishman Fluence active humbuckers, designed specifically for the Prophecy series and offering three distinct voices: a modern high-output active humbucker tone, a vintage Patent Applied For-inspired humbucker character, and an optimized single-coil-inspired clarity. The push/pull Master Volume selects the pickup voice, a Master Tone shapes the high end, and a 3-way toggle selects the pickups. Locking Grover Rotomatic tuners, the LockTone Modern bridge, and the Frequensator-inspired through-body tailpiece work together to provide outstanding tuning stability and consistent performance night after night.

• Pickup Configuration: HH (Fishman Fluence active humbuckers) — three voices per pickup via push/pull controls
• Controls: Master Volume with push/pull pickup voice, Master Tone, 3-way toggle
• Battery: 9V required (not included) — standard power for the active Fishman Fluence system
• Bridge: LockTone Modern Tune-O-Matic with roller saddles — top-mounted intonation screws for easy setup changes
• Tailpiece: Frequensator-inspired through-body design — split anchor layout for balanced string tension
• Tuning Machines: Grover Locking Rotomatic — quick string changes and reliable tuning return
• Strap Buttons: Posi-Lok — secure strap retention during energetic performance
• Case: Protector Ultralite hardshell case included — secure transport and storage straight from the factory

Who Is It For — Players Who Need Speed, Stability, and Tonal Range

The Epiphone Prophecy SG Crimson Fog Satin is the right choice for guitarists who need a modern, performance-oriented SG that handles drop tunings, high-gain genres, and aggressive playing styles without losing tuning or tonal clarity. Players in metal, hard rock, progressive, and modern fusion will appreciate the 25.5" scale, the Fishman Fluence active pickup system's three-voice flexibility, and the DAPS mounting that keeps the pickups aligned under heavy picking. The HyperGlide neck profile and compound-radius ebony fingerboard also make this guitar a strong fit for lead players who want a fast, stable platform for sweep picking, tapping, and wide-interval bends. Studio musicians benefit from the coil-split and voice-switching options, which provide enough range to cover rhythm and lead tones in a single recording session.
