Roland TD-02KV V-Drums: A Compact Electronic Drum Kit With Mesh-Head Snare

The Roland TD-02KV sits at the top of Roland's TD-02 V-Drums series, built for drummers who want genuine V-Drums expression without stepping up to a mid-tier module. Backed by more than 35 years of V-Drums development, this electronic drum kit pairs a tension-adjustable PDX-8 mesh-head snare with a four-post MDS-LITE stand that mirrors an acoustic kit layout. For new and returning drummers needing an authentic-feeling practice kit that fits in a bedroom or apartment, this model is the right choice.

What Sets this kit Apart in the Entry-Level V-Drums Range

Defining the kit is the PDX-8 mesh-head snare pad, which uses a tension-adjustable Roland mesh head like higher-end V-Drums pads and supports dual triggers for separate head and rim sounds, including cross-stick technique. Around it sits a rugged four-post MDS-LITE stand that allows wider pad spacing and central positioning of the kick pedal, leaving room to upgrade to a larger KD-series kick pad later.

TD-02 Sound Module: 16 Kits, Coach Mode, and Metronome

Onboard modules put expressive drum sounds and practice tools at your fingertips. Sixteen ready-to-play kits cover styles from dry acoustic drums to processed studio kits and modern electronic sounds. Five Coach modes (Time Check easy and hard, Quiet Count, Auto Up/Down, Change-Up) score your timing, while a built-in metronome runs from 20 to 260 BPM with 5 rhythm types and 15 sounds.

• Sixteen ready-to-play kits are included, all inspired by higher-end V-Drums modules.
• Metronome: Yes — tempo range 20–260 BPM, 5 rhythm types, 15 sounds
• Coach Functions: 5 modes — Time Check (easy/hard), Quiet Count, Auto Up/Down, Change-Up

PDX-8 Mesh Snare, PD-4 Toms, CY-5 Cymbals, and Quiet Pedals

Pad response is what separates a V-Drums kit from a budget alternative. The PDX-8 snare supports head and rim articulation plus cross-stick, while three PD-4 rubber tom pads and three CY-5 cymbal pads (hi-hat, crash, ride) round out the kit. The KT-1 kick trigger and FD-1 hi-hat control pedal are both beaterless, with proprietary sound absorption that keeps pedal thump from traveling through the floor.

• Snare Pad: PDX-8 mesh-head — tension-adjustable, dual-trigger head and rim with cross-stick
• Tom Pads: PD-4 x 3 — durable rubber surface with realistic rebound
• Cymbal Pads: CY-5 x 3 — hi-hat, crash, and ride with bow and edge response

USB MIDI, Bluetooth Expansion, and a Compact Footprint

Connectivity covers both practice and recording. The USB COMPUTER port handles MIDI and 2-channel audio at 44.1 kHz native (96/48 kHz with sampling-rate conversion), while a 3.5 mm MIX IN jack lets you drum along with a phone or music player. An optional BOSS BT-DUAL adaptor adds Bluetooth audio and MIDI streaming. The whole rig measures 1200 x 1100 x 1200 mm including a drum throne and weighs 14.3 kg.

• MIDI Interface: Yes — USB MIDI plus optional Bluetooth MIDI via BT-DUAL
• USB Audio: 44.1 kHz native — 2-channel record and playback, 96/48 kHz with SRC
• Package Contents: Drum Key, AC Adapter, Manual, Connection Cable, Hi-Hat Pedal, Bass Drum Pedal, Snare Stand

Who Should Choose this electronic kit

It is the right choice for new and returning drummers who need an authentic-feeling V-Drums kit at an entry-level price. It suits apartment dwellers who need quiet practice through headphones, students building timing with the Coach and metronome tools, and parents looking for a durable kit that a child can grow into. Bedroom producers will appreciate the USB audio and MIDI link to a DAW, while gigging players can use the kit as a low-volume warm-up or writing tool. The four-post stand layout accepts larger KD-series kick pads and an additional OP-TD1C crash cymbal.

Roland V-Drums: Over Three Decades of Electronic Drum Innovation

Roland introduced V-Drums in 1997, and the line has been the most popular and highly acclaimed electronic drum family ever since. The TD-02 series embodies that legacy at the entry level, drawing on more than 35 years of sensing technology and sound development to deliver a kit that feels and responds like higher-end V-Drums. Many V-Drums sets produced over 30 years ago are still regularly played today.
