Boss ME-90 Multi-Effects Processor — Flagship Tones in a Stompbox-Style Floor Unit

This multi-effects processor is Boss's most advanced ME-series all-in-one guitar unit, replacing the ME-80 in 2023. Eleven onboard AIRD amp models and 60 effects ported from the flagship GT-1000 run through 24-bit AD/DA conversion, 32-bit floating-point processing, and a 48 kHz sampling rate. Players can dial in tones without menu diving thanks to the knob-driven, stompbox-style interface. With 36 preset patches and 36 user patches, both ready-to-play rigs and custom setups are possible.

AIRD Amp Modeling and IR Loading — What Sets This Unit Apart

Boss's AIRD (Augmented Impulse Response Dynamics) technology models tube amp behavior and touch response with notable realism. Eleven onboard amp types span clean combos through high-gain stacks, each paired with a dedicated cab simulation. The IR Loader software allows loading of three user speaker IR slots for third-party cabinet captures.

Signal Routing and I/O — Guitar Multi-Effects Connectivity

Rear-panel connectivity covers instruments, external pedals, computers, and power.

• Inputs: USB-C, 1/4" (6.3 mm), Return, DC, Send
• Outputs: Mono (L/Mono + R) — stereo playback into amps, PA, or FRFR cabinet
• Inserting analog drives into the digital chain is easy thanks to the send/return effects loop.
• Headphone Output: Yes — silent practice with live tones

Audio Performance and Conversion — Internal Engine

Audio quality matches the flagship GT-1000 lineage.

• Sampling Rate: 48 kHz — studio-grade bandwidth
• AD Conversion: 24-bit + AF method — Roland's Adaptive Focus improves signal-to-noise ratio
• DA Conversion: 32-bit — high-headroom output stage
• Processing: 32-bit floating point — prevents digital clipping in heavy effect chains

Power, Portability, and Footswitch Control

Running on four AA batteries for approximately 6.5 hours, or on the optional PSA-series AC adaptor, the chassis measures 443 mm wide by 220 mm deep and weighs 2.9 kg including batteries.

• Battery Powered: Yes (4 × AA, ~6.5 hours) — cable-free street performance
• The eight multi-function footswitches give direct control over patch banks and effect blocks for fast switching.
• Expression Pedal: Redesigned with toe switch — hands-free volume, wah, and pitch control
• Tuner: Yes (±0.1 cent accuracy) — silent tuning between songs
