Warm Audio WA-C1-Mod Guitar Effect
The Warm Audio WA-C1 Mod is a compact analog stereo chorus and vibrato pedal based on a classic circuit, with modern practical upgrades: separate chorus Depth and Rate controls, selectable input impedance and a bypassable analog preamp.
- Fully analog chorus and vibrato
- Stereo wet/dry outputs
- Separate Depth and Rate for chorus and vibrato
- Analog preamp bypassable via the Vintage/Modern switch
- Selectable input impedance: 50 kΩ or 1.1 MΩ Hi-Z
- Compact enclosure with top-mounted jacks
Warm Audio WA-C1 Mod — Analog Stereo Chorus and Vibrato in a Compact Format
The WA-C1 Mod is a compact stereo effect pedal for players who want authentic analog chorus and vibrato with the character of classic vintage circuits, but better suited to modern pedalboards and more complex signal chains. It takes over the character of the larger WA-C1 in a smaller enclosure.
Bypassable Analog Preamp
The 100% analog preamp follows the well-known original design and adds punch, depth and gentle natural compression to the guitar. Switching from Vintage to Modern takes the preamp out of the signal path, which makes precise level and gain staging easier.
Chorus with Separate Depth and Rate
Unlike older versions with a single intensity control, the WA-C1 Mod offers separate depth and rate controls for the chorus, from subtle modulation to a pronounced effect.
Three-Dimensional Vibrato
The vibrato section delivers rich, lively modulation for funk, fusion, blues, jazz and other styles, including colours reminiscent of a rotary speaker.
Controls and Switches
- Input sensitivity High/Low and preamp level
- Chorus Depth and Rate, Vibrato Depth and Rate
- Chorus/Vibrato and Vintage/Modern switches
- Hi-Z on/off (rear panel): 50 kΩ or 1.1 MΩ; works in bypass as well
- Flashing LED: shows the active mode and modulation speed
Circuit and Power
The circuit uses 5 ICs including 3 premium Texas Instruments audio op-amps in the signal path, 11 discrete transistors, 3 FETs, 19 diodes, 2 MOSFETs and a modern recreation of the MN3007 BBD chip. A dual DC-DC converter provides the correct internal voltage from an external 9 V supply.
