Walrus Audio Fable MKII Guitar Effect
The Walrus Audio Fable MKII Black is a stereo granular soundscape generator pedal that pairs two effects in series through independent feedback paths, so the sound keeps evolving instead of looping. Five dual-effect algorithms cover reverse textures, octave-up cascades, analog-style octave-down swells, multi-tap grain clouds, and randomized pitch scattering. MIDI clock, full MIDI CC control, an assignable expression input, and 3 onboard presets plus 127 more via MIDI make it equally at home on a pedalboard or a production desk.
- Walrus Audio MDSP proprietary processing platform with two effects in series and nested feedback paths
- Five dual-effect Modes: Reverse, Octave Up, Analog Octave Down, Multi-Tap Grain-Verb, and Randomized Pitch
- Stereo in / stereo out, mono-in / stereo-out operation, buffered bypass with selectable Trails or No Trails
- 3.5 mm TRS MIDI In/Thru (Type A), USB-C for firmware updates, assignable expression or external tap input
- Compact 11.9 x 10.0 x 5.8 cm enclosure in black finish, artwork by Niall Grant
Walrus Audio Fable MKII Black — Stereo Granular Soundscape Generator
The Walrus Audio Fable MKII Black is a stereo ambient creation machine built around delay and granular processing. Five Modes each pair two effects that feed into each other through separate feedback paths, so the signal keeps developing instead of repeating. Long reversed textures, bright double-speed cascades, glitchy clouds, and randomized pitch scattering all run in true stereo, with MIDI, expression, and savable presets. The Walrus Audio Fable MKII Black is the right choice for guitarists, producers, and sound designers who want evolving, non-repeating textures rather than conventional delay repeats.
What sets the Fable MKII apart
Most delay pedals run a single effect through one feedback loop. The Fable MKII runs two effects in series through independently controlled Feedback and Regen paths, then loops the combined signal back through both stages again. That dual feedback architecture is what makes the textures shift and splice instead of decaying predictably. The pedal is built on Walrus Audio's proprietary MDSP platform, designed in-house, with a 32 kHz wet-path sample rate.
Five Modes, five dual-effect algorithms
The five Modes are the heart of the pedal and the reason it can cover such a wide sonic range from smooth ambient swells to chaotic glitch. Each Mode pairs a different delay type with a different granular treatment, so the X knob and the Time knob behave differently depending on which Mode is active.
- Mode I: Reverse Delay into Reverse Granular — grains play backward; reversal and re-reversal build up in the feedback paths for organically shifting textures
- Mode II: Forward Delay into Octave-Up Granular — grains play at double speed for bright, airy cascades
- Mode III: Analog Delay into Octave-Down Granular — grains play at half speed for deep, thunderous swells and murky ambiance
- Mode IV: Multi-Tap Granular into Multi-Tap Granular (Grain-Verb) — two multi-tap granular algorithms in series with time-stretching on both
- Mode V: Forward Delay into Randomized Pitch Granular — each grain plays at a randomly selected speed and direction for chaotic, unpredictable pitch movement
Tweak, presets, and MIDI control
The Tweak button cycles through five secondary parameters so a single knob covers Width, Mod Rate, Mod Shape, Shift, and Ramp without cluttering the front panel. Holding the tap footswitch engages Dive/Rise, which momentarily shifts the clock rate up or down for as long as the switch is held. Three onboard presets (red, green, blue) plus a Live Mode (white) sit on the pedal, and another 127 presets are reachable over MIDI.
- Stereo Width: controls how far the wet signal spreads between left and right
- Modulation: rate adjustable from 0.1 Hz to 5 Hz with sine, square, or random LFO shape
- Shift / Ramp: Dive/Rise target between 0.5x and 2x, ramp time from 50 ms to 5000 ms
- MIDI: 3.5 mm TRS Type A MIDI In and Thru, MIDI clock sync, full CC control of every knob, plus Mode, bypass, and tap
- Presets: 3 onboard + 127 via MIDI, with expression assignments saved per preset
I/O, power, and physical specs
Two unbalanced 1/4" inputs and two unbalanced 1/4" outputs support true stereo or mono-in/stereo-out operation, and the expression jack can be reassigned as an external tap tempo input. Buffered bypass can be set to Trails (decay dies off naturally) or No Trails (cuts abruptly), and the pedal ships in Trails mode. A USB-C port handles firmware updates, and Walrus Audio recommends an isolated 9 V DC supply.
- Inputs / Outputs: 2 x 1/4" unbalanced in, 2 x 1/4" unbalanced out
- Input Impedance: 1 MΩ — Output Impedance: 220 Ω
- Wet-Path Sample Rate: 32 kHz
- Power Requirement: 9 V DC centre-negative, minimum 300 mA
- Dimensions: 11.9 x 10.0 x 5.8 cm — Bypass: Buffered, Trails / No Trails selectable
