D'Addario J812 1/4M A Violin Strings

The Reliable A String for 1/4 Scale Student Violins

The D'Addario Prelude Single A String brings the warm, durable character of the world's best-selling steel-core student violin string to fractional-size instruments. Designed as a direct replacement for the A position on a 1/4 scale violin, this medium-tension string features a solid steel core wrapped with a precision winding and finished with a ball end for fast, secure installation on standard fine tuners. The solid steel core contains a pitch-stable alloy that delivers the greatest longevity of any string core type, making it well suited to the demands of daily student practice.

Prelude strings are unaffected by temperature and humidity changes, holding pitch reliably whether the instrument is carried from a cold car to a warm rehearsal room or stored between lessons. The unique damping process used in manufacturing gives the string a warm tone and excellent bow response, helping young players develop a clear, focused sound without fighting a harsh or unresponsive string. All D'Addario orchestral strings are designed, engineered, and manufactured in the USA at the company's New York production facility.

Who This String Is For

The D'Addario Prelude Single A String is the right choice for students, parents, and educators who need a reliable, affordable replacement A string for a 1/4 scale student violin. It suits beginning players working through method books and early repertoire, where a warm tone and forgiving bow response help build confidence and good technique. Music teachers who stock replacement parts for school rental fleets will appreciate the consistent quality and the fact that Prelude is the educator's preferred student string.

The medium tension offers a balanced feel under the bow that works well across classical, fiddle, jazz, and alternative styles, making it flexible enough to grow with a student as their repertoire expands. Because the solid steel core is unaffected by temperature and humidity changes, the string holds pitch reliably in classrooms, rehearsal halls, and home practice environments. For a 1/4 scale violin that needs a single A string replacement without buying a full set, this Prelude single string delivers proven D'Addario quality at a student-friendly price point.
