D'Addario J1013 4/4M G 4/4 Cello Strings

A Warm, Stable Replacement G String for Full-Size Cellos

A standalone replacement for the G string on a 4/4 scale cello, this single string lets players swap out a worn or broken string without purchasing a full set. Built around a solid steel core, it delivers the warm tone that has made Prelude the educator's preferred choice for student cellists. The unique damping process used in manufacturing gives the string a mellow character with excellent bow response, helping young players produce a warm, resonant sound that matches the rest of a Prelude-equipped cello. Because the solid steel core resists pitch drift caused by temperature and humidity changes, the string stays stable through daily practice, school orchestra rehearsals, and changing seasons. Designed, engineered, and manufactured at D'Addario's New York production facility, this single G string brings the same quality as the full Prelude set to a focused, budget-friendly replacement.

Who This String Is For

The D'Addario Prelude Cello Single G String is the right choice for student cellists and beginner players who need a reliable replacement string for a full-size 4/4 cello. It suits school orchestra programs, private lesson studios, and rental fleets where individual strings wear out at different rates and full-set replacements are not always practical. The medium tension offers a balanced feel under the bow that supports developing technique without excessive finger pressure, making it well suited to classical repertoire, fiddle styles, and introductory jazz or alternative pieces. Teachers who specify Prelude as their studio standard can keep a few single G strings on hand for quick repairs between lessons. Parents and rental program managers will appreciate that this replacement string carries the same warm tone and durability as the full Prelude set, at a fraction of the cost.
